How to use Redact PDF

  1. 1Choose a PDF.
  2. 2Search for words to mark every match, or drag boxes over areas, including on scanned pages.
  3. 3Select Apply redactions. The copy is checked to confirm the marked text is gone.

Good to know

  • Each page with a redaction is rebuilt as a flattened image with the boxes burned in, so its original text and graphics are removed, not just covered.
  • Redacted pages lose selectable text. Pages without redactions are unchanged.
  • Metadata, bookmarks and attachments from the original aren’t carried over.
  • Check the result: only what you mark is removed.

Yes. Each page with a redaction is rebuilt as an image with the black boxes burned in, so the text underneath is gone, and the copy is checked to confirm searched words no longer appear.

They’re copied unchanged and keep their selectable text. Redacted pages lose selectable text, and the original’s metadata, bookmarks and attachments aren’t carried over.
